The Edward "Lum Chung" Joseph Family

His Journey — Our Legacy

Our Story

Edward "Lum Chung" Joseph holds a unique and celebrated place in Virgin Islands history as the first Chinese man to immigrate to the Danish Virgin Islands with the Moravian Church. His arrival marked the beginning of a remarkable family legacy that spans generations and continents.

"His journey represents courage, faith, and the pursuit of new opportunities. Through his life and legacy, he built bridges between cultures and communities."

His children and descendants represent a beautiful blend of African American and Asian heritage — a unique family tapestry that continues to grow stronger with each generation. Today, the Joseph family is spread across the United States, the Caribbean, and beyond, yet united by a shared pride in our ancestry.

This website and our annual reunion serve as a gathering place for our family — to share memories, celebrate our heritage, stay connected, and preserve our history for the generations that follow.
